LEADERSHIP INSPIRES
“If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader.” –John Quincy Adams Since her high school days, this has been my youngest daughter Elie’s favorite quote. I am impressed on how well she is taking this quote and applying it in her every day life. Elie has been learning about leadership for many years and has had the opportunity to practice leadership over and over again with her nieces and nephews and others younger than herself. For instance, on Wednesday evenings she helps second graders at our church to memorize Bible verses. The children look up to her for guidance and direction, and she is quick to encourage them when they are having a hard time.She’s also done her fair share of babysitting, which naturally employs many leadership skills. Elie has also gained leadership experience working with me in business. She is a great assistant to me at conferences. She often engages with people before the session begins, which puts them at ease and helps to set a positive tone for the meeting to come. People seem to immediately love Elie! In addition, she has led group activities during my training session, even though most of the time people in the groups are older than she is. Her confidence always blows me away, and I have seen her grow by leaps and bounds over the last couple of years. Leadership is not all about being the boss, as many people think. Being a good leader involves serving others, and as John Quincy Adams understood, leaders are the people who, by their actions, "inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more.”
