TEAMWORK WORKS!

Teamwork is the ability to work together toward a common vision. The ability to direct individual accomplishments toward organizational objectives. It is the fuel that allows common people to attain uncommon results. Simply stated it is less me and more we.

If you and I want to really gain some traction to overcome life’s obstacles, we must rethink our thinking, and this can be especially true when it comes to teamwork.

We all know that teamwork works, and yet we are also all guilty from time to time of setting up roadblocks that keep teamwork from working. Some roadblocks that come to mind are these:  pride, ego, laziness, and lack of seeing things from others perspectives.

When any team member has set up a roadblock, it is their responsibility to rethink their thinking, so they can be a better team player and so the team can achieve their desired results.

Here are a few strategies I use to help me be a better team player, and they just might help you, too!

  • Remind yourself and others of the team’s original objectives and that the goal is to seek the common good for everyone involved.

  • Refuse to make excuses or place blame on others. Instead, acknowledge and take responsibility for your own pride, ego, or laziness, or any attitudes that need to be shifted.

  • Remember that if you are truly going to have success with teamwork, you must be willing to give to the team my time, talents, resources with a good attitude. I have always discovered when I am in need there are people there to help me. Stretch yourself until the habit of being a giver is established.

  • Rethink how you talk to yourself about yourself and others on the team. You will feel much better about yourself and fellow team members when you think positively.

In summary, I want to be an example of teamwork in my home, my family, my community, and my world, and I hope you do too. I know I am richer for it and you will be too.
