I know that I have written many articles and spoken to hundreds of groups many times before on the theme of persistence or tenacity and the attitude of never throwing in the towel. Maintaining an attitude like this is so difficult, and at times it is all too easy to be a quitter. This I know from personal experience. It seems that once I quit on a commitment, regret seems to manifest itself as I reflect on my past failures. Regret does not feel so good. I would much rather endure the pain that comes from pressing on when I feel like quitting, than the thoughts and feelings of regret.
Winston Churchill once gave a three word speech that sums up this great attitude. He got up to speak and said, "Never, ever quit!" and then sat down. Short and to the point. I remind myself of this speech whenever I feel like quitting on a commitment. Sometimes it helps, sometimes it doesn't. But if it gets me another step closer to my goal, it has all been worth it.
I also remind myself that success comes from failuretaking the negatives of the past and turning them inside out, squeezing the lemons and making lemonade. Yes, I know that lemon thing is so cliché and yet, it is so true.
Keep pressing on when you are the most frustrated. That's my encouragement to you. And don't forget to count your blessings and make wise decisions, too! Do not just quit. That's the easy way out. Often the goal is just around the cornercloser than you may think. Whatever you do, don't let the negative emotions of fear and regret steal your joy!
