From the Desk of Bob

I am still "SPARK'N" I hope you are too! I expect you had a wonderful holiday weekend. I know that I did. Lots of family fun. Way too much watermelon. Sure was good though.

Positive Motivational Messages for Conferences, Trainings, and Special Events! Please mention "Mr. Attitude!" to decision makers who may need my services. Mr. Attitude, is filling up his Fall Schedule right now!

Many of our readers have participated in my seminars, trainings and speaking engagements. If some of my tools, or ideas have helped you please send me a note about that successful result. I am updating my Miracle Book! I would love to have your story in it. Over the years we have received hundreds of letters of how people have applied the principles and processes that they gained in my sessions. We just love capturing that kind of feedback. It gives us purpose. It also fuels our mission.

Let me know if you benefit from these weekly writings, too. Many times this is our greatest paycheck.

Of Good Cheer, Bob

Seeds of Success: Tough Leadership - True Leadership

By Robert A. Prentice

Our world today needs and requires leaders who are tough, yet flexible. Whether a leader is stone cold and hard or on the other extreme fragile like glass they will not bring their people to the success that they all desire.

A piece of leather is tough. It will not tear easily. There is great flexibility in a piece of leather. When I think of a great leader I think of a piece of leather. Tough yet flexible. I want to resist the things that want to tear me apart.

We need to maintain our commitment to remain flexible and open to new things, new ideas, new processes, new possibilities especially when someone else has the idea or a special perspective.

Tough leadership is also compassionate leadership that understands family priorities and supports that vital function.

We live in a day and age when the world seems to be crying out for true leaders. Our society needs men and women who carry a vision for a healthy and positive tomorrow. I would like to share with you just a few of the traits and signs that I feel characterizes a true leader.

A true leader is one who:

   · has at one time or another been a follower.
   · works daily at developing personal leadership skills.
   · loves to plan the work and work the plan.
   · does not criticize, condemn, or complain.
   · enlists the willing cooperation of people.
   · overcomes the adversities and negatives of life.
   · is not afraid to eat humble pie
   · possess high morals and attitudes of integrity.
   · empowers people.
   · encourages others.
   · taps his/her own creative potential and that of others.
   · turns negatives into positives.
   · loves life.
   · models leadership by example.
   · does not lord their authority or power over others, because their desire is to serve others, not to be served.

Of course, the list could go on and on. The point I desire to make is simply this: Not just anybody can be a leader. You have to be willing to lift up the people around you.

How about you; are you a true leader? Are you tough? If not, toughen up.

"Leadership is practiced not so much in words as in attitude and in actions." -Harold S. Geneen
