From the Desk of Bob

For 20 years I wanted to have a speaking Gig at a Walmart store, especially since historically, if I get one in a chain store, I will gain many others in their chain. This is a huge mile stone in my career. Walmart is now on the list as I will be speaking to an entire store in June. Yeah! There is nothing like hitting a goal. I plan on pouring my brains into Walmart. They asked me what I charged I responded with I need to ad up all my Walmart receipts for the last couple of years first. We all got a big laugh out of that one. Just had to share.

Seeds of Success: Acheiving Your Goals

By Robert A. Prentice

Everyone of us knows that it is one thing to set a goal and yet an entirely different thing to actually achieve or accomplish the goal. We often hear about how we ought to set goals, but in reality, what we really want is to accomplish our goals, dreams, and desires; isn't that right? It is a fact that once we set out to accomplish a goal, obstacles and roadblocks are going to get in our way, and that sometimes makes us feel like giving up. This is when we need to press on and persevere to achieve the goal. Many people quit way too soon and fail to enjoy the fruit of their labors.

Several years ago we started a family project. At first everybody was pretty excited about our goal-to build a "refreshment" stand. We began encountering obstacles almost immediately, and it wasn't long until frustration set in over the wide variety of issues needing to be dealt with, such as licensing, water, ice, suppliers, money, customer needs and wants, etc. It was just a bit overwhelming to say the least.

It was neat to see how when one of us got discouraged, one of the other family members was there to pick the rest of us up and remind us of our goal and mission. We have always wanted to refresh people with quality information and ideas like you are reading here.

By working together, encouraging each other, and overcoming the obstacles we achieved our family goal-Kountry Kones opened on the south side of Wessington. We ran the establishment for the entire summer and fall that year. We had a great time, learned much, and enjoyed many milk shakes and floats. The family time invested in this project was worth every penny as we still think back on those days with positive reflection.

Writing out our goals on paper
Setting timetables
Clarifying responsibilities
Establishing accountability
Executing strategies

I still believe that this whole process contributed to our children's success today.

On the Sunny Side of Life

One day a man spotted a lamp by the roadside.
He picked it up, rubbed it vigorously, and a genie appeared.

"I'll grant you your fondest wish," the genie said.

The man thought for a moment, then said, "I want a spectacular job. A job that no man has ever succeeded at or has ever even dared try."

"Poof!" said the genie. "You're a housewife."
