From the Desk of Bob

Someone once remarked upon the huge number of failures which Thomas Edison had racked up in his quest for a practical storage battery: fifty thousand failed experiments before finally achieving any results. "Results?" the inventor replied. "Why, I have gotten a lot of results. I know fifty thousand things that won't work!"

Failure is a sign that you are getting closer to your goal. Failure is O.K. I have had to learn to take my failures, and the negatives that come with failure, and shift my thinking to greater and more positive results and outcomes.

Seeds of Success: Don't Quit Poem

By Robert A. Prentice

I wish I was the person who wrote this poem. I have memorized it and it has changed my life. My favorite stanza is the last one. This poem has enhanced my life in so many positive ways. I share this today to challenge you to be your best, to press on, and to never, ever quit! I dedicate this poem to my friend Caroline who is an example of persistence. I have observed her dedication to success and commitment for many years. To your success!

Don't Quit

When things go wrong as they sometimes will,
When the road you're trudging seems all up hill;
When the funds are low and the debts are high,
And you want to smile, but you have to sigh;
When care is pressing you down a bit,
Rest, if you must, but don't you quit.

Life is queer with its twists and turns,
As everyone of us sometimes learns;
And many a failure turns about,
When he might have won, had he stuck it out;
Don't give up, though the pace seems slow,
You might succeed with another blow.

Often the goal is nearer than
It seems to a faint and faltering man;
Often the struggler has given up,
When he might have captured the victor's cup;
And he learns too late, when the night slipped down,
How close he was to the golden crown.

Success is failure turned inside out,
The silver tint of the clouds of doubt;
And you never can tell how close you are,
It many be near when it seems afar;
So stick to the fight when you're the hardest hit,
It's when things seem worst that you must not quit!

On the Sunny Side of Life: Close Shave

King Gillette spent eight frustrating years inventing and developing his safety razor. After founding the Gillette Safety Razor Company, he reflected upon his arduous journey. "If I had been technically trained," he explained, "I would have quit!"
