They don't begin."
~W. Clement Stone~
"Give yourself an even greater challenge than the one you are trying to master and you will develop the powers necessary to overcome the original difficulty."
~William Bennett~
Seeds of Success: Attitudes of Excellence
By Robert A. Prentice
As I was growing up, my Dad would often times remind me that any job worth doing was worth doing to the very best of my ability. I believe this basic, yet very sound principle has been the foundation of a very productive life-one of the many Attitudes of Excellence that has been woven into the very fiber of my being over the years. Let me share a few more Attitudes of Excellence with you.
· Excellence is working hard, even when you really don't feel like it.
· Excellence is overcoming difficult obstacles, challenges, and roadblocks, with enthusiasm.
· Excellence is picking yourself up by the bootstraps, one more time than you have been knocked down.
· Excellence is taking responsibility whenever you make a mistake or error in judgment.
· Excellence is having an incredible reputation of integrity and honesty.
· Excellence is doing what you tell people you will do, always following through on your commitments.
· Excellence is loving your neighbor and being more caring toward others and not just thinking about yourself.
Excellence is not something you can achieve all at once. As with so many other things in life, it is a process that goes on for the rest of our lives. But having an Attitude of Excellence-that is, making a conscientious decision to be excellent in all you think, do, and say-is where it starts.
Make a commitment today to having an Attitude of Excellence in everything, because excellence only happens when you care enough to do and be your very best!
On the Sunny Side of Life: Having Tea
There was a man who had a little daughter who so enjoyed playing house. She especially liked playing tea party and one day she invited her dad to play with her.
The dad was excited at her daughter's fine imagination. The tea table was covered with a nice tablecloth and the tea set was finely placed on the table. The three-year-old daughter had even filled her teakettle with tap water in preparation for the party.
As his daughter poured him his tea, the proud father watched. And, as he took a healthy sip, he said "Sweety, I think this is the best tea that I have ever had. Mmmm. This is delicious."
The little girl was delighted and grinned from ear to ear. She poured her father another cup.
As the farther was enjoying his second cup of tea, the daughter's mother entered the room to discover the tea party.
"My, my, what do we have here?" inquired the mother.
"We are having a tea party. And, this tea tastes great. I am having my second cup," said the father.
As the mother noticed that the teapot and the cups were full of water, she commented to her husband "Dear, you know that she is too short to reach the sink. The only place that she can get the water is from the toilet."
