Life Attitudes
Napoleon Hill: "Self-discipline begins with the mastery of your thoughts. If you don't control what you think, you can't control what you do. Simply, self-discipline enables you to think first and act afterward."
James Allen: "You are today where your thoughts have brought you; you will be tomorrow where your thoughts take you."
J. W. Teal: "It is the habitual thought that frames itself into our life. It affects us even more than our intimate social relations do. Our confidential friends have not so much to do in shaping our lives as the thoughts have which we harbor."
Seeds of Success: Right Thinking Reduces Wrinkles
By Robert A. Prentice
Got your attention, didn't I? Actually, it is true that having less negative stress can minimize the frustration that is known to cause wrinkles. And since faulty thinking is the cause of much of our stress, well I just figure that when our thinking is right we will be less stressed and therefore ultimately end up with less wrinkles.
So what can one do to be sure they are thinking right? Well, for starters, get rid of the idea that you can do everything all by yourself. Never be afraid to ask for help when you need it. Accept another's help and you lighten your burden and lessen your stress level.
Make life decisions only after you have done your due diligence in thinking through the issues. This will take you more time up front, but will save you tons of time and
hassles later-that will certainly reduce your stress level.
Never allow yourself to waste time thinking of ways to get even with others. Take the high road when someone lets you down. By the same token, admit and take responsibility for your own mistakes right away. Remind yourself that no one is perfect-that everyone makes mistakes. Accepting that fact takes a lot of stress out of life.
Don't think you can just "wing it" through life and end up being successful. You must regularly take time to think about your life-where you are and in relation to where you want to go. Turning your hopes and dreams into a written plan goes a long way towards reducing negative stress in your life.
Treasure your relationships. Don't fall into the trap of thinking life could be so much better if you got a new job or a new spouse or a new house. Be happy with what you have. In fact be so happy that you are always smiling. You know what they say-Wear a smile and have friends; wear a scowl and have wrinkles! Talk about an awesome stress reliever!
The bottom line is, when you choose right thinking, you choose to not let the stresses of life get to you. You choose to think in a positive way, which is essentially a more forward direction, that helps you to make great progress with less stress.
And that is bound to give you less wrinkles, wouldn't you say?
On the Sunny Side of Life
A young ensign had nearly completed his first overseas tour of sea duty when he was given an
opportunity to display his ability at getting the ship under way. With a stream of crisp commands, he had the decks buzzing with men and soon, the ship had left port and was streaming out of the channel. The ensign's efficiency has been remarkable. In fact, the deck was abuzz with talk that he had set a new record for getting a destroyer under way.
The ensign glowed at his accomplishment and was not all surprised when another seaman approached him with a message from the captain. He was, however, a bit surprised to find that it was a radio message, and he was even more surprised when he read, "My personal congratulations upon completing your underway preparation exercise according to the book and with amazing speed. In your haste, however, you have overlooked one of the most
important unwritten rules of seamanship: "Make sure the captain is on board before getting under way!"
