From the Desk of Bob
Greetings!
I love "E" words. They roll through my mind everyday. You might even say words that begin with the letter "E" turn me on. These words challenge me and I hope they will challenge you. Each week I will be bringing you one of my favorite "E" words. I would like to think that we will be celebrating these empowering words. Focus on these words. Bring them into your vocabulary each week. Chew on them. Meditate on these words. Watch what happens as you apply them into your life.
This week's "E" word: Enlist
verb: engage a person or their help or support: The company enlisted the help of independent consultants.
Have a great week as you enlist the willing cooperation of people to achieve the desired result! Bob
Life Attitudes
Albert Schweitzer: "I don't know what your destiny will be, but one thing I do know: the only ones among you who will be really happy are those who have sought and found how to serve."
Helen Keller: "Happiness cannot come from without. It must come from within. It is not what we see and touch or that which others do for us which makes us happy; it is that which we think and feel and do, first for the other fellow and then for ourselves."
James M. Barrie: "Those who bring sunshine into the lives of others, cannot keep it from themselves."
Seeds of Success: Discover What Brings Others Happiness
By Robert A. Prentice
My personal belief is that true happiness is found in serving and giving to another human being. This quote from Og Mandino confirms my personal belief. Pay special attention to the third sentence.
"Realize that true happiness lies within you. Waste no time and effort searching for peace and contentment and joy in the world outside. Remember that there is no happiness in having or in getting, but only in giving. Reach out. Share. Smile. Hug. Happiness is a perfume you cannot pour on others without getting a few drops on yourself." -Og Mandino
I aspire to live my life in such a way that I am always aware of what brings other people happiness. For example, I know what makes my wife happy is to have me really take time to listen to her when she is trying to share her thoughts or opinions on a subject that is important to her. I know what makes my daughter happy is to just spend a little Dad and daughter time watching a movie or shooting hoops together. Now I may have other ideas of what I would like to do, but as much as possible I want to let my desire to bring happiness to my wife and daughter override my decision to do what I want to do. In essence, I make a decision to give of myself in order to bring happiness to them.
Living this way obviously works at work just as well as at home when you take the time to discover what brings happiness to your employer or fellow employees. When we think in terms of the interests of others, and do what we can to meet those needs rather than only thinking of our own needs, it will ultimately result in a win-win for everyone concerned. Not to mention, this attitude can greatly impact productivity, morale and ultimately increase profitability in the workplace.
My encouragement for you today: Discover what brings happiness to those you connect with daily; then be willing to give of yourself by reaching out, sharing, smiling, listening, encouraging-in whatever ways you can-to meet someone else's need.
On the Sunny Side of Life: ONLY IN AMERICA
FBI agents conducted a raid of a psychiatric hospital in San Diego that was under investigation for medical insurance fraud.
After hours of reviewing thousands of medical records, the dozens of agents had worked up quite an appetite. The agent in charge of the investigation called a nearby pizza parlour with delivery service to order a quick dinner for his colleagues.
The following telephone conversation took place and was recorded by the FBI because they were taping all conversations at the hospital:
Agent: Hello. I'd like to order 19 large pizzas and 67 cans of soda.
Pizza Man: And where would you like them delivered?
Agent: We're over at the psychiatric hospital.
Pizza Man: The psychiatric hospital?
Agent: That's right. I'm an FBI agent.
Pizza Man: You're an FBI agent?
Agent: That's correct. Just about everybody here is.
Pizza Man: And you're at the psychiatric hospital?
Agent: That's correct. And make sure you don't go through the front doors. We have them locked. You'll have to go around to the back service entrance to deliver the pizzas.
Pizza Man: And you say you're all FBI agents?
Agent: That's right. How soon can you have them here?
Pizza Man: Everyone at the psychiatric hospital is an FBI agent?
Agent: That's right. We've been here all day and we're starving.
Pizza Man: How are you going to pay for all of this?
Agent: I have my chequebook right here.
Pizza Man: And you're all FBI agents?
Agent: That's right. Everyone here is an FBI agent. Can you remember to bring the pizzas and sodas to the service entrance in the rear? We have the front doors locked.
Pizza Man: I don't think so. *Click*
