Life Attitudes

Michael Flatley: "Whenever I hear, 'It can't be done,' I know I'm close to success."

Kurt Lewin: "A successful individual typically sets his next goal somewhat but not too much above his last achievement. In this way he steadily raises his level of aspiration."

Author Unknown: "According to the song lyrics, the 6th Day of Christmas is "Six Geese A-Laying." What does this mean? To me, six geese a-laying represents six different streams of income. A farmer can use the eggs for food, or to sell or barter for other goods. If something were to happen to one of his geese, he would not be ruined. He would have five geese a-laying, and still be able to put food on his table, or trade eggs for money or other goods."

Seeds of Success: Never Put All Your Eggs In One Basket!

By Robert A. Prentice

There are not many guarantees in this life, and certainly no guaranteed income! STUFF HAPPENS-and without any warning, the income you have come to depend on could change drastically for any number of reasons. About the only thing you can really count on is that there will be change.

New information causes change! Take for instance the Buggy Whip Factory. Though quite popular at one time, it is closed now and forever. Why? Well we all know it was the automobile that made the buggy whip obsolete. Of course, you will notice that there have been plenty of shifts and changes over the last century, and as new jobs come on the scene, old ones tend to die out. That is precisely why we should never count on just one stream of income. Never!

My best advice for everyone right now is to make sure you have more than one income stream set up to keep the cash flow coming into your personal financial world. You should always be working on a secondary stream to at least keep the "big bad wolf" at bay. If you have a job right now that is great. Consider that employment a blessing. Work harder than you ever have worked to retain that position, and let everyone up the corporate ladder know that you exist and are dedicated to the success of the company. You still have a life outside of this job. So how about a second job? Maybe a small sideline business? Get at least one more stream of income set up now.

Maybe you are currently self-employed and have your own business? Well, how about adding an additional product or service to the mix. Never just count on one major client to keep you a float. You should have two or three major accounts, two or three medium sized accounts and many smaller accounts that you can grow and mature with over time.

Back when 9/11 happened fortunately I had several streams of income coming into my checkbook or I would have basically went belly up. Everybody was postponing my projects. Now with the latest challenges in the world economy and our financial challenges closer to home I am so glad I have my business. I am so glad I can make changes as I need to for marketing purposes and such. Mostly I am glad that I have been working on several income streams so that if one or more goes "south" I can
still move forward with out being totally crippled.

Wherever a person puts their time and energy is where their income will come from. I can remember my Dad telling me that, years ago while growing up on the farm, and have found that he was absolutely right. And yet, you must determine never to "put all your eggs in one basket" and to "always "have an ace or two up your sleeve." Having more than one income stream insures that when the unexpected happens, you are not left standing with egg on your face.

On the Sunny Side of Life

Two very elderly ladies were enjoying the sunshine on a park bench in Miami. They had been meeting that park every sunny day, for over twelve years, chatting and enjoying each other's friendship.

One day, the younger of the two ladies, turns to the other and says, "Please don't be angry with me, dear; but I am embarrassed. After all these years, what is your name? I am trying to remember, but I just can't."

The older friend stares at her, looking very distressed, says nothing for two full minutes, and finally with tearful eyes, says, "How soon do you have to know?"
