Life Attitudes
Frank A. Clark: "If you can find a path with no obstacles, it probably doesn't lead anywhere."
Arthur Golden: "Adversity is like a strong wind. It tears away from us all but the things that cannot be torn, so that we see ourselves as we really are."
Mary Engelbreit: "If you don't like something change it; if you can't change it, change the way you think about it."
Anonymous: "The difficulties of life are intended to make us better, not bitter."
Seeds of Success: Grow in Tough Times
By Robert A. Prentice
Below you will find one of my favorite poems on growth. Whether it's a tree, a child or an adult, we had all better be growing. I like to read this poem whenever I am wondering what all the pain and difficulties are about in my life or the life of someone I know.
Grow Tall
By Douglas Wallcock
The tree that never had to fight
For sun and sky and air and light,
Never became a forest king,
But lived and died a scrubby thing.
The man who never had to toil,
Who never had to win his share
Of sun and sky and light and air,
Never became a manly man,
But lived and died as he began.
Good timber does not grow in ease
The stronger the wind, the tougher the trees.
The farther the sky, the greater the length
By sun and cold, by rain and snow
In tree or man good timber grows.
Let us never forget that difficult times do serve a purpose. Perhaps nothing good can ever really come unless there are some trying times and circumstances to go through. We may not be able to see the purpose while going through those trials and tough times, but once on the other side, if we have stayed the course and kept the right attitude, we will be able to see the growth that has taken place in us.
On the Sunny Side of Life: RANCHER JOHN
Old ranch owner John farmed a small ranch in Montana. The Montana Wage and Hour Department claimed he was not paying proper wages to his workers and sent an agent out to interview him. 'I need a list of your employees and how much you pay them,' demanded the agent.
'Well,' replied old John, 'There's my ranch hand who's been with me for 3 years. I pay him $600 a week plus free room and board. The cook has been here for 18 months, and I pay her $500 a week plus free room and board. Then there's the half-wit who works about 18 hours every day and does about 90% of all the work around here. He makes about $10 per week, pays his own room and board and I buy him a bottle of bourbon every Saturday night.'
'That's the guy I want to talk to, the half-wit,' says the agent.
'That would be me,' replied old rancher John.
