From the Desk of Bob

Good Morning!

This past week we have had a good number of requests for a free sample issue of our little monthly positive attitude publication, The Prairie Beacon. We would love to be able to add your name to the list of the thousands of people who have read The Prairie Beacon since its inception in July of 1999. All you have to do is send us your mailing address and we will send you a free copy. No strings attached, though I should mention that once you read it, you'll probably want to subscribe!

I've been fighting a pretty nasty cold this week and am not as clear-headed as I need to be to write a whole article for MMM, so have decided to run a reprint of an article I wrote back in 2004. I look forward to feeling better soon. In the meantime, I invite you to join with me in chewing on some attitude nuggets that have helped me to keep the "alligators at bay".

Stay Healthy! Bob.

Life Attitudes

Art Linkletter: "Things turn out best for the people who make the best of the way things turn out."

Anonymous: "Every day may not be good, but there's something good in every day."

Thomas Jefferson: "Nothing can stop the man with the right mental attitude from achieving his goal; nothing on earth can help the man with the wrong mental attitude."

Seeds of Success: Chew On These Attitude Nuggets

By Robert A. Prentice

I have been tapping into all of my "creative juices" lately-resolving challenges, overcoming obstacles, generating business-all these requiring from me to not only be active at working hard, but also active at working smart. How about you? Ever wonder what working smart is all about?

I believe that working smart is using our brains more than our brawn. So often we just jump in with both feet before thinking things through, only to later find ourselves knee deep in alligators. Ouch! Trust me, I have been bitten more than once in my day. I have had to learn from the school of hard "bites."

This is my checklist for keeping the alligators at bay:

If we are going to think, we should think clear thoughts. Clear thoughts produce clear results.

Positive thinking creates more energy, more initiative and more happiness, and less stress in our daily living.

Train your mind to think in terms of 'possible' and 'can be done.' This will change your life.

When you have control over your thoughts, you have control over your life. Our life is what our thoughts make it.

When there are difficulties and you feel down, this is the time to visualize, think and expect the best. Challenges, obstacles and difficulties are where our character is born and raised. Do not let circumstances influence your thoughts and moods. By rising over them mentally, you will eventually rise over them in the natural sense.

Fill your mind with light, happiness, hope, feelings of security and strength, and soon your life will reflect these qualities to others. After all, success begets success.

On the Sunny Side of Life: IT DOESN'T TAKE A GENIUS!

MENSA is an organization whose members have an IQ of 140 or higher. A few years ago (so the story goes), there was a MENSA Convention in San Francisco and several members lunched at a local cafe.
While dining, they discovered that their salt shaker contained pepper and their pepper shaker was full of salt. How could they swap the contents of the bottles without spilling and using only the implements at hand? Clearly, this was a job for MENSA!
The group debated and presented ideas and finally came up with a brilliant solution involving a napkin, a straw and an empty saucer. They called the waitress over to dazzle her with their solution.
"Ma'am," they said, "we couldn't help but notice that the pepper shaker contains salt and the salt shaker..."
"Oh," the waitress interrupted. "Sorry about that." So she unscrewed the caps of both and switched them.
