Good Morning!
"Chasing Butterflies" is a phrase I heard this past week, used to describe the practice of having a lot of action with little or no result!
The moment I heard this phrase I really liked it! Then-if truth be known-it really got me to thinking. As I reflected and processed these two words I realized that I have observed this behavior many times over the years. There are so many people who waste so much time doing basically nothing. Oh, they are busy, but they seem to be spinning their wheels and going nowhere fast; busy running here and there, chasing those elusive butterflies, but never reaching their goal.
Wait a minute! I've chased a few butterflies in my day too. I admit to chasing a few butterflies even this last week. In fact, there have been times when I even prided myself on the art of chasing butterflies. Fortunately change can occur when I use the tools I have armed and equipped myself with over the years-some basic tools to help me overcome habits like this and many others, such as procrastination and having priorities out of whack, just to name a few.
Taking action and getting results are two very important concepts and attitudes for success, in my humble opinion, and it just so happens that these two powerful concepts are the subject of this week's article here in Monday Morning Motivations.

Life Attitudes
Ken Blanchard: "People who produce good results feel good about themselves."
Denis Waitley: "The results you achieve will be in direct proportion to the effort you apply."
Henry Ford: "You can't build a reputation on what you are going to do."
Seeds of Success: Just Get Me Results!
By Robert A. Prentice
Years ago I had a boss who nearly every day would say to me, "Results! Just get me the results!" He did not want to hear about all the stuff and fluff of my daily activities; he just wanted the results from my activities. He was a pretty tough boss, but he did teach me of the importance of getting results.
According to Wikipedia, "result" is defined as the final consequence of a sequence of actions or events (broadly incidents and accidents) expressed qualitatively or quantitatively, being a loss, injury, disadvantage, advantage, gain, victory or simply a value. There may be a range of possible outcomes associated with an event possibly depending on the point of view, historical distance or relevance. Put simply, a result is simply the outcome or consequences of something.
As we all come to find out sooner or later, there are always results, but the results we get are not always what we had hoped for. I have found that when people don't get the results they wanted there is usually something that has gotten in their way, such as:
* Laziness
* Lack of focus
* Fear
* Stress and anxiety
* Priorities being out of whack
* Timing isn't right
This list, of course, is far from complete. You may have to do a little soul-searching to find out what exactly is keeping you from getting the results you desire from all your activity.
"Getting the job done is job one" may be your motto, but it is vital that you define the results you are after, in the initial stages of the action process. It is always a good idea to take the necessary time to clarify your goals and objectives. Remind yourself that results do not just happen by osmosis, and that there is no magic or easy way to get things done. If you want results, you are going to have to work for it! Sometimes results require that you work very hard until the job is done! Another thing-be sure that the things you are doing are actually moving you closer to achieving your desired results. After all, if what you are doing is taking you in the wrong direction, you will probably not reach your destination.
Results come from action-consistent daily actions. Awesome results are the by-product of planning, tenacity, enthusiasm, commitment, and ultimately taking action. I know you've heard me say it before, and I will continue to say it: Take Action and You become!
From personal experience, I can say that once the intended results are achieved, standing back and reviewing the results of your activity is a very pleasurable experience. Even the mistakes you corrected and the challenges you have tenaciously overcome along the way add to your ultimate satisfaction.
In conclusion, bringing everything to a productive closure is exactly what I am doing right now with you. Now that you have received your "motivation" your time, energy, and money now needs to be invested in some productive and profitable activities that do not include reading any more of this article. <Smile!>
On the Sunny Side of Life: THE ETERNAL QUESTIONWHY?
Why does the sun lighten our hair, but darken our skin?
Why can't women put on mascara with their mouth closed?
Why is lemon juice made with artificial flavour, while dishwashing liquid is made with real lemons?
Why don't we ever see this headline:
"Psychic Wins Lottery"?
Why is the man who invests all your money called a "Broker"?
Why isn't there mouse flavoured cat food?
Who tastes dog food when it has a "new & improved" flavour?
Why didn't Noah swat those two mosquitoes?
Why do they sterilize the needle for lethal injections?
Why are they called apartments when they are all stuck together?
Why do they call the airport "the terminal" if flying is so safe?
Bob's Tip:
Did you know that if ask anyone from a Professor to a politician 'Why?' three times in a row, you can reduce them to a gibbering idiot?
I know this from personal experience- I have a 3-year-old grandsonneed I say more?
