From the Desk of Bob

Happy Labor Day!

Just spent Sunday at the South Dakota State Fair in Huron, SD and had a wonderful time with the family. Were you able to attend a fair this summer? I like fairs because I think they bring out the kid in all of us. All the sights and sounds bring back so many memories of the many county and state fairs I was so fortunate to attend as a kid growing up in Minnesota.

For many, today signifies the end of summer. I have noticed the days are already getting shorter and the evenings much cooler and many of the pumpkins in my garden have already turned orange. Fall is definitely in the air. Believe it or not, I am already looking ahead to winter. I kind of get the feeling we are going to see snow early this year. Not that I am a weather guy or anything-I'm just a prognosticator!

Enjoy your holiday and be safe! Bob

Life Attitudes

Anonymous: "The door of opportunity is wide open if you are prepared."

Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra: "To be prepared is half the victory."

Benjamin Disraeli: "I am prepared for the worst but hope for the best."

Anonymous: "When at leisure make preparations for a time of need."

Seeds of Success: Prepare for Days of Necessity

By Robert A. Prentice

One never knows what is around the corner. Do you believe things are going to get better or will they be even tougher than they are right now? Are you prepared for the future? Do you have your storehouse filled? Remember the story about the grasshopper and the ant?

The Ant and the Grasshopper

In a field one summer's day a Grasshopper was hopping about, chirping and singing to its heart's content. An Ant passed by, bearing along with great toil an ear of corn he was taking to the nest.

"Why not come and chat with me," said the Grasshopper, "instead of toiling and moiling in that way?"
"I am helping to lay up food for the winter," said the Ant, "and recommend you to do the same."

"Why bother about winter?" said the Grasshopper; "we have got plenty of food at present." But the Ant went on its way and continued its toil. When the winter came the Grasshopper had no food, and found its self, dying of hunger, while it saw the ants distributing every day corn and grain from the stores they had collected in the summer.

Then the Grasshopper knew:
"It is best to prepare for the days of necessity."

I don't believe I have ever before in the history of MMM challenged people to prepare for the days of necessity quite to this degree. Today I am quite serious about this. I cannot shake the gut feeling that I have that we need to get back to the basics in life now. We need to plan and prepare in whatever ways we can for future uncertainties. Just do a quick Google search on "preparedness" and you will discover thousands of pages of information on getting prepared for bad weather, difficult economic times, and so on.

I share this, not in fear, but purely in an attitude of encouragement. Personally, I am investing one to two hours every day in preparedness for the future days of necessity and I hope you are too..
