From the Desk of Bob

Good Morning!

Recently, I upgraded my cell phone to one of those fancy new "smart" phones that has every kind of extra bell and whistle you can imagine. I know now why they call them smart phones-because its like having a mini computer with you wherever you go and because you have to be pretty smart to use one. (Smile)

It's been a month or more since I got this neat piece of technology and I am still learning all the things that it can do besides make telephone calls. It's a pretty impressive gadget that is helping me to accomplish several goals all at once. Now besides being able to make and receive calls, I can also surf the web and get my email wherever I am and whenever I get the urge. It's been quite the timesaving device that I think is making me much more efficient in business and in my personal life. And it's just possible that it's even making me smarter every day too! (Smile)

I would love to chat with you anytime you get the urge so just call me (605.484.3263).

Have a happy Monday and a great week! Bob

Alexander Graham Bell: "Before anything else, preparation is the key to success"

Stephen Levine: "If you were going to die soon and had only one phone call you could make, who would you call and what would you say?  And why are you waiting?"

Alexander Graham Bell: "When one door closes, another opens; but we often look so long and so regretfully upon the closed door that we do not see the one which has opened for us."

Seeds of Success: Thank You, Alexander Graham Bell

By Robert A. Prentice

It has been said that if email had been around before the telephone was invented people would have said, 'Hey, forget email; with this new telephone invention I can actually talk to people!' There's something to be said for that.

Ideally, most communications would be face to face, but as a business owner, I realize that is just not possible. I know that connecting with people-whether it by phone or by email-in business is vital; so is keeping in touch with family and friends.

There is such great power in using the telephone to communicate to others, and as convenient as email is, I am becoming more convinced each day that we are beginning to lose touch with the telephone as a major communications tool. People are just not picking up the telephone to connect as often anymore, and it seems communications have suffered a bit for it. I don't know about you, but I have always enjoyed hearing the other person's voice on the other end of the line. In a phone conversation, I can get a person's tone and demeanor-something that I cannot get in an email.

Of course, I still do maintain the rule of thumb that if a customer or client contacts me via email, I will respond with an email; if they call be on the telephone, I will call them back; and when someone sends me a letter via the U.S. Postal System, I will send a return response by mail.

My point is this: Picking up that Ten-Ton Telephone to call someone is still a proven methodology for building better business relationships and enhancing overall communications. Talking on the telephone is still the next best thing to being there, so let's keep dialing.

Oh, yes! And thank you Alexander Graham Bell!

On the Sunny Side of Life

In honor of moms everywhere, I thought we'd share the answers given by second grade school children to the following questions:

Why did God make mothers?
· She's the only one who knows where the scotch tape is.
· Mostly to clean the house.

How did God make mothers?
· He used dirt, just like for the rest of us.
· Magic plus super powers and a lot of stirring.

What ingredients are mothers made of?
· God makes mothers out of clouds and angel hair and everything nice in the world and one dab of mean.
· They had to get their start from men's bones. Then they mostly use string, I think.

Why did God give you your mother and not some other mom?
· We're related.
· God knew she likes me a lot more than other people's moms like me.

What kind of little girl was your mom?
· My Mom has always been my mom and none of that other stuff.
· I don't know because I wasn't there, but my guess would be pretty bossy.

What's the difference between moms and dads?
· Moms have magic, they make you feel better without medicine.
· Mom's know how to talk to teachers without scaring them.

What would it take to make your mom perfect?
· On the inside she's already perfect. Outside, I think some kind of plastic surgery.
· Diet. You know, her hair. I'd diet, maybe blue.

If you could change one thing about your mom, what would it be?
· She has this weird thing about me keeping my room clean. I'd get rid of that.
· I would like for her to get rid of those invisible eyes on the back of her head.
