"Nobody trips over mountains.  It is the small pebble that causes you to stumble.  Pass all the pebbles in your path and you will find you have crossed the mountain."  -Anonymous

"Tenacity is a pretty fair substitute for bravery, and the best form of tenacity I know is expressed in a Danish fur trapper's principle" 'The next mile is the only one a person really has to make.'" -Eric Sevareid

Seeds of Success: Tackle Projects with Tenacity

By Robert A. Prentice

When I hit a roadblock while working on a project, I find my best strategy is to move to another project for a while. Later, I am able to come back and "hit" the original project with a new bit of information and a renewed attitude. I liken this to a football player hitting at his opponent from one way, and then another, until he is able to tackle him.
I aspire to tackle all the projects that get assigned to me, including the ones that I create for myself, with as much tenacity, enthusiasm and commitment as a football player hungering for a win.
Then there are the times when I have the ball and am the one getting tackled. I stumble and fumble as I face what appears to be a brick wall I cannot get through. But all is not lost. With perseverance and determination, I simply look for away to go around and pick up the project again and press on.
There's no greater satisfaction than to run across the goal line of life's choices and decisions! I often do a little jig when I succeed!
Reflect back for a moment on the projects you are working on currently in your life. Are you getting sidelined in any of your processes? Take the time to huddle with your team, and focus on the goal. Even if you only take it the next ten yards, at least you are moving forward. Yes, hitting your projects with gusto can sometimes cause pain. That's okay. After all, it's only when you hear the crunch of the shoulder pads, racking and hitting at each other, that you know you're playing football.
Choose to deal with the pain with enthusiasm, and tackle that difficult project with tenacity. If I can do it, I know you can, too!

On the Sunny Side of Life

A new company, feeling it was time for a shake-up, hires a new CEO. The new boss is determined to rid the company of all the slackers. On a tour of the facilities, the CEO notices a guy leaning against the wall. The room is full of workers and he thinks this is the chance to show everyone he means business!

The CEO walks up to the guy and asks, "And how much money do you make a week?"

Undaunted, the young fellow looks at him and replies, "I make $200 a week, why?"

The CEO then hands the guy $200 in cash and yells, "Here's a week's pay, now GET OUT and don't come back!"

Feeling pretty good about his first firing, the CEO looks around the room and asks, "Does anyone want to tell me what the slacker did here?"

With a sheepish grin, one of the other workers mutters, "That was the pizza delivery guy!"
