From the Desk of Bob
Greetings!
Twice I have been to Las Vegas this year. Both were really great business trips. The biggest lesson I learned was that there is no place like home. I am so glad I live here in the middle of South Dakota. I love the quiet, the sounds of the birds chirping in the morning, and the only clinging and clanging I may here are my grandson's playing with the pots and pans in the kitchen. My ears are still ringing from the sounds of the slot machines.
Ahhhh! Yes it is so nice and quiet as I write this week's Monday Morning Motivations. I cherish the quiet!
Hope yours is a successful week! Bob

Seeds of Success: Looking in the Mirror
By Robert A. Prentice
Assisting my dear wife in raising our four children has taught me so very much about myself. Often when I have observed a behavior or an attitude in one of my children that was negative-or at least something I have not been very impressed with-it has been very much like looking into a mirror. What is reflected back to me as I look into their faces are the weaknesses in my own life and I cannot help but feel the pain of wondering if I had made different choices or made better decisions along my path if their challenges would even be an issue today.
Don't take me wrong; we have four really great children and sometimes when I look at them I do see the good I have tried to instill in them as well. Fortunately, none of them are in prison or have the challenges that some parents have had to deal with in the processes of parenthood. Many parents I know today are in some major struggles with their children-I can only imagine the pain and anguish-and I do not wish to heap burning coals on these parents. I would much rather encourage each today to simply grow and keep learning from this process of parenthood.
The point I am making today is that as human beings there are a number of things that we can do to improve our lives. The best place for me to look for an area to improve upon is to look into the lives and faces of my children. This 'looking in the mirror' mindset helps me to learn from past mistakes and to make some major changes in my life. This never-ending process of growth and change is vital for success into the future.
I have always wanted to be the best father that I can be; I have always aspired to be the best human being I can possibly be. Isn't that what we all want-to be the best we can be? Understand I am not talking about perfection here. I am focusing on us making the most of this long, slow and arduous process of personal growth that often comes through difficult and painful circumstances and situations, as is the case when we look into the lives of our children and see reflected there all we have shown them by our example-the good, the bad, and sometimes even the ugly.
Whether you are a parent or not, you most likely have someone in your life that is your 'mirror'. When you look at that person what do you see reflected there? Do you see something of yourself in them that causes you to realize you want to change-that you must change your ways? What you see, at first may seem awfully painful, but if it leads to new growth in you, you will be glad you took some time to look in the mirror. (And the neat thing is that as you change, it is very likely that your 'mirror' will change, too.)
