From the Desk of Bob

Greetings!

Andrew Jackson was the first president to ride a train; Garfield the first president to use the telephone; Teddy Roosevelt the first president to ride in a car.

What are you going to be first at this week? Are you going to be the first one up in your household every morning? Are you going to be the first one at the office this week? Are you going to be the first to meet your boss' request to turn in your goals or submit that project plan?

I want to be the first anyone thinks about when they need a source for help in their personal or professional development.
Be alert! Be ready! Be first!

Enthusiastically! Bob

Seeds of Success: What Really Matters?

By Robert A. Prentice

Precious time with the precious few
-it's something I have been pondering lately, as I search my mind and my heart to discern what really matters most in life. Time is such a precious resource, which makes the wise use of every moment of it so critical to accomplishing our goals, dreams and desires. But sometimes we get to spending so much of our time chasing after the rainbow's end, that we fail to recognize the preciousness of the people that are close to us. The longer we live, the more we realize what really matters most are the people who have touched our lives and have brought us joy, love, and a hope for a better future.

I am blessed to have many precious people in my life, and today, I want to share about two of the most precious little guys to me--my grandsons, Justin and Ethan.

After being out of town all last week, I had plenty of work to be done on the home front on Saturday. I was also eager to visit my two grandsons, so as soon as I got up and going on Saturday morning, even though I had a thousand things to do, I headed over to their house for a little visit. Immediately, I was greeted with hugs and kisses of the grandsons and reveled in their excitement over seeing me-and the gifts I had brought for them. I enjoyed some one-on-one time with each of the boys, and then they ran off to play, while I visited a bit longer with their folks.

Later in the afternoon I was privileged to once again enjoy my grandsons as I pulled them around our big, big yard in my homemade "Bob" sled, which was hooked to the lawn tractor. Hearing the youngest one's, "WHEE!" every time we started to take off, and the non-stop giggles and laughter of both boys, just melted my heart. Then after naptime-theirs and mine-the boys came back over (with their mom and dad, of course) for tacos and chocolate cake. Seeing cake all over the Ethan's face, while big brother, Justin, ate his all prim and proper, just made me well up in joy!

I have still not recovered (nor do I want to!) from my awesome day with my grandsons. I am just bursting at the seams with love for those two precious little guys who call me "Grampa"-so much so, that here I am, up at 5 A.M. writing about the whole experience, so you can share in it, too. Those precious boys have surely changed me; they have touched me and brought so many good things to my life.

I hope my little story touches something in you, too. What, or rather, who matters most to you? Are you seeking out those special opportunities to really enjoy those precious people in your life? If you are finding yourself too busy for those closest to you, I must challenge you to not allow another day to pass without shifting your thinking and priorities.

Saturday I was reminded of the importance of putting people before things; putting my priorities in order turned out to be the most rewarding decision I could have ever made. Yes, my Saturday chores got put off 'till another day-well, not all of them; I did get some things done. But then, what was really accomplished was the investment I made into the lives of two future leaders-and that's what really matters the most to me. What really matters to you?

On the Sunny Side of Life: It Takes a Genius

MENSA is an organization whose members have an IQ of 140 or higher. A few years ago (so the story goes), there was a MENSA Convention in San Francisco and several members lunched at a local cafe.

While dining, they discovered that their salt shaker contained pepper and their pepper shaker was full of salt. How could they swap the contents of the bottles without spilling and using only the implements at hand? Clearly, this was a job for MENSA!

The group debated and presented ideas and finally came up with a brilliant solution involving a napkin, a straw and an empty saucer. They called the waitress over to dazzle her with their solution.

"Ma'am," they said, "we couldn't help but notice that the pepper shaker contains salt and the salt
shaker..."

"Oh," the waitress interrupted. "Sorry about that." So she unscrewed the caps of both and switched them.
