From the Desk of Bob
I hope everyone is planning for a wonderful holiday season; I know that we are! And since this is such a busy time of year, we are planning to take a couple of weeks off, so beginning with next week's MMM, and through the rest of the year, we will be utilizing some past issues. I hope you don't mind, as we basically are requiring a break. No, this is not a writer's strike or anything of that nature-we're just taking some creative liberties.
Be assured, we will be back in the New Year with fresh new articles that will challenge you and inspire you to take your life to new levels of personal and professional fulfillment.
Have a joyful week! Bob

"The thing you fear most has no power. Your fear of it is what has the power. Facing the truth really will set you free." -Oprah Winfrey
"You gain strength, courage, and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face. The danger lies in refusing to face the fear, in not daring to come to grips with it. You must make yourself succeed every time. You must do the thing you think you cannot do." -Eleanor Roosevelt
"The only thing we have to fear is fear itself-nameless, unreasoning, unjustified, terror, which paralyzes needed efforts to convert retreat into advance." -Franklin D. Roosevelt

Seeds of Success: Do What You Fear To Do!
By Robert A. Prentice
When you run down the list of the fears that we humans are so capable of, you find in the negative emotion of fear a power that is quite incredible. Understand that any one of these fears, or others you may think of, has the capability of paralyzing a person, causing them to be unable to move forward and capture the flag of success.
Fear, when you are locked or frozen in it, and it's zapping your creative juices, has only one remedy, and that is that you must honestly identify the fear that is holding you back, and then confront that specific fear head-on. There's the fear of the unknown, the fear of failure, the fear of change, the fear of what people may think of you, the fear of what people may say about you, the fear of success, the fear of lack of control, the fear that you may not know what to do. (Obviously, the list could go on and on.)
Personally, at one time or another, I have struggled with all of these types of fear in my life and I have overcome them simply by facing them head-on. It has not always been easy, and has always required that I persevere. Sometimes the old fears I previously faced and conquered have even flared up again, and I have had to deal with again.
If you are struggling with fear, I encourage you to start talking to yourself in a most forceful manner regarding the action steps you must and will take to shift your thinking about these fears. With courage, determine to face your fear head-on. Then, do the thing you have feared to do. Go ahead. What's the worst thing that could happen? Is the worst-case scenario really worse than going through life being afraid? Probably not.
After you've conquered one fear, then hit the next fear that is holding you back. One thing you'll quickly discover is that facing you fears will build your confidence. So get your head on straight today. Do not allow fear to hold you back any longer from the success that you desire. Do what you fear to do and the death of fear is certain!
On the Sunny Side of Life: To All the Kids Who Survived the 1930's, 40's, 50's, 60's & 70's
First, we survived being born to mothers who smoked and/or drank while they were pregnant. They took aspirin, ate blue cheese dressing, tuna from a can, and didn't get tested for diabetes.
Then after that trauma, we were put to sleep on our tummies in baby cribs covered with bright colored lead-based paints.
We had no childproof lids on medicine bottles, doors or cabinets and when we rode our bikes, we had no helmets, not to mention, the risks we took hitchhiking.
As infants &children, we would ride in cars with no car seats, booster seats, seat belts or air bags.
Riding in the back of a pick up on a warm day was always a special treat.
We drank water from the garden hose and not from a bottle. We shared one soft drink with four friends, from one bottle and no one actually died from this.
We ate cupcakes, white bread and real butter and drank Kool-aid made with sugar, but we weren't overweight because, we were always outside playing!
We would leave home in the morning and play all day, as long as we were back when the streetlights came on. No one was able to reach us all day. And we were O.K.
We would spend hours building our go-carts out of scraps and then ride down the hill, only to find out we forgot the brakes After running into the bushes a few times, we learned to solve the problem.
We did not have Playstations, Nintendo's, X-boxes, no video games at all, no 150 channels on cable, no video movies or DVD's, no surround-sound or CD's, no cell phones, no personal computers, no Internet or chat rooms.
We had friends and we went outside and found them!
We fell out of trees, got cut, broke bones and teeth and there were no lawsuits from these accidents.
We ate worms and mud pies made from dirt, and the worms did not live in us forever.
We were given BB guns for our 10th birthdays, made up games with sticks and tennis balls and, although we were told it would happen, we did not put out very many eyes.
We rode bikes or walked to a friend's house and knocked on the door or rang the bell, or just walked in and talked to them!
Little League had tryouts and not everyone made the team. Those who didn't had to learn to deal with disappointment. Imagine that!!
The idea of a parent bailing us out if we broke the law was unheard of. They actually sided with the law!
These generations have produced some of the best risk-takers, problem solvers and inventors ever!
The past 50 years have been an explosion of innovation and new ideas.
We had freedom, failure, success and responsibility, and we learned how to deal with it all!
If you are one of them- CONGRATULATIONS!
