From the Desk of Bob

With over 275,000 people participating in my life changing seminars over the last 18 years or so I am continually thrilled at how people have taken these principles, attitudes and tools and have applied them in their lives. You may want to know that my lifetime goal is to equip 1 million people in my professional career with the information that is found in my seminars and workshops. I want to touch lives in a positive and powerful manner.

Would you be willing to help me? If you know of a company or organization that could benefit from my life-enhancing tools, will you tell them about my services? Simply have them go to my website or give me a call toll free.

Thanks! I would really appreciate anything that you could do.

Seeds of Success: One Powerful Question

By Robert A. Prentice

What if when you asked people one question you could create a healthier result? What if when you asked the boss this question you could more effectively get his or her attention? Whether you want to open up more doors or have people be more willing to share their thoughts or ideas or you desire to create a more winsome conversation let me encourage you to ask this one key question as you begin a conversation: May I have your permission to ask a few questions?

You might wonder why one would have to ask permission to ask questions. Well, here is why: When you ask permission, you give and show respect to people and that puts them at ease. (What a great way to show and give respect!)

I have learned over the years that as you show and give respect you get it right back. This is an incredible principle. I have also learned that 99.9% of the time people respond in the affirmative and say YES.

In fact, just the other day, I asked someone I know the question: "May I have permission to ask a couple of questions?" and this man's response was quite positive. I then proceeded to ask him about his unique name, and I learned more about him in two minutes than I had learned in the last several months. It was incredible. What a powerful tool. Use it this week and let me know how it works for you.

This simple question asking process is not at all painful to use. Asking never fails to get the conversation moving in the right direction and definitely results in more positive responses.

I encourage you to start gaining permission before you start any conversations this week and see what happens. I'm eager to hear how this one powerful question changes your communications.

On the Sunny Side of Life

As the crowded airliner is about to take off, the peace is shattered by a five-year-old boy who picks that moment to throw a wild temper tantrum. No matter what his frustrated, embarrassed mother does to try to calm him down, the boy continues to scream furiously and kick the seats around him.

Suddenly, from the rear of the plane, an elderly man in the uniform of an Air Force General is seen slowly walking forward up the aisle. Stopping the flustered mother with an upraised hand, the white-haired, courtly, soft-spoken General leans down and, motioning toward his chest, whispers something into the boy's ear.

Instantly, the boy calms down, gently takes his mother's hand, and quietly fastens his seat belt. All the other passengers burst into spontaneous applause.

As the General slowly makes his way back to his seat, one of the cabin attendants touches his sleeve. "May I ask you a question?" she asks quietly.

"Why yes," reponded the General.

"What magic words you used on that little boy?" asked the attendant.

The old man smiles serenely and gently confides, "I showed him my pilot's wings, service stars, and battle ribbons, and explained that they entitle me to throw one passenger out the plane door, on any flight I choose."
