We are still sifting through the results of our recent survey. Once again, thanks to everyone and your input.

This week I will be in Watertown and Sioux Falls, South Dakota doing seminars with people I have never met before and I am looking forward to the opportunity. I remind myself that a friend is a stranger I have not met yet. I intend to make a pile of new friends.

Be watching for our new "Webinars" coming soon to a computer screen near you. We are planning to start with Keys to Better Selling seminars and Leadership seminars. These "Webinars" will be fun, rewarding and priced right for any budget.

"A wise old owl sat on an oak; The more he saw the less he spoke; The less he spoke the more he heard; Why aren't we like that wise old bird?"

"To listen well is as powerful a means of communication and influence as to talk well."
-John Marshall

"Listening is a magnetic and strange thing, a creative force. The friends who listen to us are the ones we move toward. When we are listened to, it creates us, makes us unfold and expand."

Seeds of Success: Hush Up and Listen!

By Robert A. Prentice

Giving of one's self is the first step to building lasting, mutual, and hardy relationships, and showing genuine and sincere interest in others and their goals, their dreams, hobbies, and likes and dislikes, is vital to growth in any relationship. Face it, a person must get "outside of themselves" if they are ever going to experience true friendship. When we spend too much time talking about ourselves, and not enough time listening to others we tend to drive people away from us rather than draw them to us.

I know that I have a talkative kind of personality and I must literally force myself to "hush up and listen" to people talk about themselves. Talk, talk, talk! Whenever I realize the person I am conversing with isn't saying very much because I am doing all the talking, I make a conscious decision to be quiet so I can listen to what the other person has to say.

Everyone has much to talk about, but we must resist the temptation to be conversation hogs. We must learn to focus on the needs of other people, who just like us, have something to say. In fact, I have found that some very quiet people have some very interesting things to say, if given the opportunity; they may just need to be coaxed a bit.

If you really want people to like you, or be impressed with you, be reminded that it is not what you say that impresses people. To really give of one's self is to take control of the urge to speak, so turn on your listening ears and really hear what people are saying to you. Cement their words into your brain. Make their words "sticky" so that they are easily recalled and quote these words back to the person and when they know that you heard what they said, that will impress them.

People will think that you are a brilliant conversationalist when you listen to them. People will remember you when you listen to them. People will want to call you their friend when you listen to them. People will be changed forever when you listen to them. People will not run from you, as if you have the plague, when they see you coming, because they know you will listen to them. People will be eager to associate themselves with you, because you have learned to hush up and listen.

What We Project Is What We Get Back

A son and his father were walking in the mountains. Suddenly, his son falls, hurts himself and screams:
"AAAhhhhhhhhhhh!!!"

To his surprise, he hears the voice repeating, somewhere in the mountain: "AAAhhhhhhhhhhh!!!"

Curious, he yells: "Who are you?"

He receives the answer: "Who are you?"

Angered at the response, he screams: "Coward!"

He receives the answer: "Coward!"

He looks to his father and asks: "What's going on?"

The father smiles and says: "My son, pay attention." And then he screams to the mountain: "I admire you!"

The voice answers: "I admire you!"

Again the man screams: "You are a champion!"

The voice answers: "You are a champion!"

The boy is surprised, but does not understand.

Then the father explains: "People call this echo, but really this is life. It gives you back everything you say or do.

Our life is simply a reflection of our actions. If you want more love in the world, create more love in your heart. If you want more competence in your team, improve your competence.

This relationship applies to everything, in all aspect of life; life will give you back everything you have given to it."
