From the Desk of Bob

Novemburrrr! I love wood heat. My family and I have been chopping piles of wood preparing for winter. I cut and burn wood for two reasons mainly. One, to get out in the woods and tree strips and get some great exercise cutting, pulling, lifting, throwing pickup loads of timber; secondly, to feel that “special” kind of heat between the hours of 4 and 8 a.m.

Of course, these most generally are the coldest hours in a day. This process of heating with wood ultimately helps me be the best that I can be. Saving money on heat bills has nothing to do with this process. It is purely a fringe benefit!

Have a FANTASTIC Week! Bob

Seeds of Success: Make A Positive Impression

By Robert A. Prentice

It has been said that you only have one chance to make a positive first impression.

One chance? That’s not great odds. Besides why do we have to impress anyone anyway? Be real, be who you are, be honest with yourself. Now that’s impressive.

Those of you that know me realize that I am no Tom Cruise when it comes to looks or money. Regarding the outside, well we must do the best that we can with what we have! That has been my motto for 30 plus years in business and life in general and it has served me well.

However, rarely what you look like on the outside has as much to do with making a good first impression. I am convinced that when one wants to make a really powerful and positive impression, what counts most is what’s on the inside of us.

It’s kindness, sincerity, and genuine attitudes of the heart, displayed with an air of confidence that immediately puts people at ease and makes that positive impression. And don’t forget the smile!

I’ll admit that even for me–Mr. Attitude–it sometimes it is really hard to turn on the charm, enthusiasm, wit, and speak with an air of confidence and wisdom when I am attempting to make a positive impression. It is hard to sincerely smile at someone and have these positive attitudes, when you don’t FEEL like that on the inside? In fact, it’s impossible! Unless of course, you take the focus off of yourself and your own challenges and focus on the other person and their wants, needs, and desires.

My advice is that you begin with some positive self-talk to shift any negative attitudes that are hindering your success. Say things to yourself that will build your confidence, such as “I am a kind and sincere person, able to make a good impression in this situation; I genuinely care about this person and I want what is best for them; my needs will be met as I reach out to meet the needs of this person; I can smile; I will act enthusiastic and I will be enthusiastic!”

We all will probably find ourselves in the position of needing to make a good and positive impression at least once, and more likely, many times this week. Whether it is a job interview, a business contact, or servicing a customer, even a new acquaintance, remember that your attitude will determine your success in making a positive impression on others.

Remember this, too: Your positive impressions begin on the inside and are often seen on the front of your face and heard in the tone of your voice. Yes, you often have only one opportunity to make a favorable impression, and YOU CAN DO IT!
