From the Desk of Bob

Making right choices today has a powerful impact on the tomorrows of our children and grandchildren. The thoughts we think, the habits we acquire, and the character we develop throughout our lifetime becomes the legacy we will leave for future generations. Almost daily I think about the kind of legacy that I want to leave my children, and the desire to leave them an enduring and meaningful legacy has been the “rudder” that helps me live my life from day to day.

Now keep in mind that I have not always made the best of choices and I take full responsibility for the poor decisions and live out the consequences. This, of course, is a process that continues to build my character.

As you’ve probably guessed by now the focus of this week’s MMM is a subject that is very near and dear to me–that of leaving a lasting legacy.

Have a GREAT week! Bob

"We must not, in trying to think about how we can make a big difference, ignore the small daily differences we can make which, over time, add up to big differences that we often cannot forsee.”

Seeds of Success: An "Attitude" Legacy

By Robert A. Prentice

There is nothing in this world more important to me than to let my children and grandchildren know that in this life “attitude is everything”. This has become such a passion of mine, it has become the very basis for literally everything I do, and I hope it will be the same for my loved ones.

Here are some of the things I have learned that I want my children and grandchildren to know:

• Having the right kind of attitude through life’s ups and downs is a vital key to having joy, peace and success.

• Every “negative” they encounter in life can be transformed into a “positive” with a little creativity and innovative thinking.

• Having a proper attitude when things aren’t so positive will help them to recognize their wrong paradigms and mindsets and set about breaking those old destructive habits that hold them back and help them to begin healthy new habits.

• Character is primarily built through difficult circumstances.

• It requires a great deal of diligence to make it in this life.

• All things are possible through accountability and the attitudes of commitment and excellence.

• Failure is okay, because success comes from failure.

• No one is perfect and all that is required of them is that they always strive to do their best.

• All of us are going through a perfecting process–like gold being refined in the fire–and that the growth process hurts, but it’s the only way to get to the good stuff.

There are lots more things I want my children and grandchildren to know– much more than I can share in just a few minutes. But I can tell you this: Being persistent in my quest to leave a powerful and a positive legacy gives me a reason to get up each day and is what helps me to live my life with purpose.

So, what is the legacy you hope to pass on? Are you living the legacy today? Are you allowing it to shape you into a better person today? Imagine the possibilities!

The Farmer & His Sons
By Aesop

A farmer who had a quarrelsome family called his sons and told them to lay a bunch of sticks before him. Then, after laying the sticks parallel to one another and binding them, he challenged his sons, one after one, to pick up the bundle and break it.

They all tried, but in vain. Then, untying the bundle, he gave them the sticks to break one by one. This they did with the greatest ease.

Then said the father, “Thus, my sons, as long as you remain united, you are a match for anything, but differ and separate, and you are undone.
