Seeds of Success: Finding Joy

By Robert A. Prentice

Finding joy in the little things of everyday life is the adventure on which I am focusing a huge amount of my energy, as I go about my daily living on this planet. I know I have written about this in the past, but I can’t help myself. I just feel the need to repeat it often–that joy IS in the small things. Everywhere I turn it seems I find people who have little or no joy in their life. They simply exist from day to day, going from one event to the next with no passion, no peace, and certainly no joy.

Since I do quite a lot of traveling, one way I have found to pass the time, and to bring a bit of joy into my life is to look for opportunities to take pictures along the way. I often pull over to the side of the road, grab my digital camera and snap pictures of deer, sunflowers, wheat fields, clouds, sunrises, sunsets or whatever I find interesting. Photography is just one of the hundreds of things that helps me to look for the joy around me. What’s more, further joy awaits me when I upload the pictures I have taken to my computer and relive the moments they were taken, as I view each one.

I always find joy in being creative, and this past weekend I found great joy in making candles with my wife. It was kind of a “date” we had made and boy did we have fun! And now we are enjoying the simple pleasure of burning one of our aromatic soy candles. Mmmm! Smells like Grandma’s Blueberry Cobbler!

Finding joy begins with waking up every morning with an attitude of positive affirmation and saying to your self, “This is going to be a great day today!”

Finding joy begins with looking for and having an attitude of curiosity and an attitude of wonderment and wanting to understand the how and why things work.

Finding joy begins with getting involved in a hobby or activity that brings out your creative side.

Finding joy begins with serving others.

Finding joy begins with never giving up–always being full of hope, peace and love.

Finding joy begins with watching for the rainbows after the cloudy and dark days pass, and taking time to watch a sunset with someone you love.

Finding joy begins with taking the time to live, laugh, and dream.

Finding joy begins with cherishing the simple things and simple times.

My best encouragement to you today this: From this moment on, make it a point to look for joy in unexpected places, and determine to keep searching in your quest of finding joy until you have succeeded.
