From the Desk of Bob

Greetings this happy Monday Morning! It's great to be alive, considering our area was hit quite extensively by tornadoes this past week. Thankfully the Prentice household is just fine!

I have had quite a few phone calls and emails from readers who have been telling me about their struggles and challenges at being self-employed or building their side-line business. I dedicate this week's Seeds of Success to them, as an encouragement.

Daily, I am reminded that none of us is alone in the struggle to achieve greater success in our personal and professional lives. If you have a story to tell, please let me know. I am sure others would like to know how you have triumphed over adversity.

Please send stories to bob@mrattitudespeaks.com and I will publish them in future editions of MMM.

To your success! Bob

Seeds of Success: Tenacity Pays

By Robert A. Prentice

Tenacity pays the bills. It is one of the key attitudes that has allowed me to survive in business for a quarter of a century. Being able to persevere through the challenging times when nobody wanted to retain me for my services–or in other words hire me–has brought me to the success that I enjoy today.

My mission in business 25 years ago was to develop "champions" in cities all across the nation. I am still fulfilling my mission, today, as I go about encouraging people in a positive manner and equipping them with the tools, resources and ideas to live a richer, fuller and happier life.

Thankfully, I have had the most awesome privilege of seeing that dream, which began in Glendive, Montana, become a reality. From Glendive my life-enhancing attitudes spread to Rapid City, Spearfish, Pierre, Laramie, Denver, Bismarck, Jamestown, Minot, Las Vegas, Tampa, San Diego, Salt Lake CIty, Cedar City, Great Falls, and eventually to hundreds more towns and cities.

It occured to me that if you break down the word tenacity, you get “ten a city.” Isn't that cool? I figure that if I am able to touch at least ten people in each city I travel to in a positive way, and those ten people would each impact ten more people in a positive way, millions of lives will ultimately be enhanced.

This, of course, is not always easy. But I have found that when tenacity really pays off is when you are tired and worn out from the battle. Tenacity helps you to pull yourself up by the bootstraps, dust yourself off, straighten out your tie, put a smile on the face and continue on with one more day of picking up the phone or walking in that door and asking for an opportunity to solve a challenge for someone, in hopes that they will then compensate you for your services.

In summary, I would not trade anything for these past years of self-employment, for even though it has been difficult at times, I have cultivated a spirit of tenacity, that will keep me going for years to come.

I choose to persevere in the tough times. The real question of the day is this: Will you press on, and keep pressing on until you reach your goals, knowing that tenacity pays.

Dig A Little Deeper

There's a story about the California gold rush that tells of two brothers who sold all they had and went prospecting for gold. They discovered a vein of the shinging ore, staked a claim, and proceeded to get down to the serious business of getting the gold ore out of the mine.

All went well at first, but then a strange thing happened. The vein of gold ore disappeared! They had come to the end of the rainbow, and the pot of gold was no longer there. The brothers continued to pick away, but without success. Finally, they gave up in disgust. They sold their equipment and claim rights for a few hundred dollars, and took the train back home.

Now the man who bought the claim hired an engineer to examine the rock strata of the mine. The engineer advised him to continue digging in the same spot where the former owners had left off. And three feet deeper, the new owner struck gold.

A little more persistence and the two brothers would have been millionaires themselves.

There's gold in you, too. Do you need to dig farther?
