From the Desk of Bob

I must pause here today and mention that Jennifer Rai has joined our team here at Professional Development Systems. Jennifer works in customer service and schedules my training and workshop sessions and will also be handling my future travel arrangements.

Jennifer actually started working for us a couple of months ago, and joins Tracy Collins who began assisting me late last year. Tracy manages our databases and helps with marketing. These are two classy and very sharp businesswomen who own their own Virtual Assistant businesses, and they are both helping me big time! Both are eager to serve our clients, readers, listeners, and friends, and I highly recommend them to anyone needing a business assistant.

Please take time to check out Jennifer’s and Tracy’s ads on the left hand column of MMM, and click through to their sites to learn more about the awesome business services these virtual assistants have to offer. Feel free to contact them to say hi and welcome them at customerservice@mrattitudespeaks.com!

Enthusiastically! Bob

Seeds of Success: Making No Decision IS a Decision

By Robert A. Prentice

Earlier this summer, I had an offer from a neighbor to buy my boat. At the time, I thought, “No way! I love my boat. I need my boat!” I really did enjoy my boat when I first bought it a few years ago, and had really not thought that I would ever want to sell it. So I told my neighbor I really wasn’t looking to sell my boat, but I would think about it.

Well, I pretty much forgot about it until a couple of weeks ago this same neighbor approached me and said he really wanted to buy my boat, and I was faced with making a difficult decision. Do I want to keep the boat, or should I sell it?

You know they say that the two happiest days a guy has are the day he buys his first boat and the day he sells it, and when I got honest with myself, I realized that as much as I loved the idea of having a boat, I really didn’t use mine very much. In fact, because of the drought and low water levels of the lakes around here, the boat hasn’t even been in the water for three summers.

Still, I did not know if I wanted to sell my boat. What if I did and it turned out to be the wrong decision? Or what if I didn’t and I missed an opportunity? I vacillated back and forth in my mind for quite a few days, and finally after talking it over with my wife, told my neighbor I would sell him the boat. Now he is one happy man. And do you know what? I am, too!

Decisions can be difficult to make, and living in a day and age when there are so many of them to make, it can be easier to postpone decision-making, just like I did with the boat. However, making no decision is still a decision!

Face it; everyone has tough decisions to make from time to time. There are some “biggies”, like moving across country or even across town, changing jobs, buying a house or a car, expanding or making cutbacks in the business, etc. It can be particularly difficult to make these kinds of life decisions when there are numerous options, and I have found that most people will put off making a decision rather than risk making a wrong decision.

So, if you are one who is having a hard time making decisions, make a list of things in your life that are desperately requiring a decision to be made and follow these very important steps:

• Get all the facts before making any decision.

• Project a stop loss or a date and a time for the decision(s) to be made.

• List your options and the likely consequences or outcomes of each option.

• Discuss your option with others who are far enough removed from the situation to be an objective, unbiased and helpful sounding board. (Verbalizing your thoughts and fears can really help you to determine if a decision is a wise one.)

• Once you are satisfied that you have all the facts, and you have gotten wise counsel from others, go ahead, take a risk, and make your decision.

Don’t let the fear of making a wrong decision, cause you to post-pone decision-making, for that in itself IS a decision.
