Seeds of Success: Success Is A Daily Commitment

By Robert A. Prentice

According to Webster's New Collegiate Dictionary the word commitment means, "an agreement or pledge to do something in the future, the state of being obligated or emotionally impelled to a specific responsibility."

Sometimes there is confusion about the term “commitment.” Sometimes it labels an intention as opposed to a contract. Here is what I believe about the word.

• Commitment is what separates the wheat from the chaff.

• Commitment is picking yourself up one more time than you have been knocked down.

• Commitment prevails over frustration in any process.

• Commitment is what transforms a promise into reality.

• Commitment is the words that speak boldly of your intentions and the actions, which speak louder than the words.

• Commitment is making the time when there is none, coming through for others time after time and year after year.

• Commitment is being on time, starting on time, and ending on time.

• Commitment is the stuff character is made of, the incredible power to change the face of situations.

• Commitment is the daily triumph over skepticism and negative thinking.

Wow! Having had just typed all that, I must confess I have not always kept my commitments. There are times when new information comes in, and old habits or bad attitudes tempt me to be less than committed. But there are many times, too, when I can look back and see that the commitments I have made have kept me hanging on, persevering no matter what. It is in being committed, that I am able to succeed.

Being committed to greater success in your daily living is a major step to a healthier, happier life and a more profitable business. You will also find that when you maintain your commitments your credibility is greatly enhanced.

I encourage you to review your commitments today, keeping your priorities, goals, dreams, and responsibilities in mind, and asking yourself a couple of questions: Am I as committed as I should be? Is there an area of my life where I need to make a re- commitment? Then, make a decision to re-commit and stay committed. Remind yourself, daily that you have the capabilities to succeed in whatever you set out to do, as long as you are daily committed to achieving success.

Give For The Joy Of It!

A chicken and a pig were walking down a street when they spotted a colorful billboard depicting a breakfast plate of eggs and bacon. The chicken stopped to admire the advertisement and said proudly to the pig, "Doesn't that picture make you happy? Doesn't it feel good to be able to give to folks that way?"

The pig replied, "Well, yes, but for you it's a contribution. For me–it's total commitment!"

"There is a line somewhere between a contribution and commitment. A contribution is made out of obligation, but a voluntary commitment is made out of joy. And when we give out of joy, we feel good!" –Steve Goodier
